Wuxi has become the first National Civilized City cluster of China after its subordinate cities of Jiangyin and Yixing were recognized as National Civillized Cities by the central government.

Li Xiaomin, Party secretary of Wuxi, together with Chen Jinhu, Party secretary of Jiangyin and Shen Jian, Party secretary of Yixing, received the National Civilized City awards on behalf of Wuxi at Beijing's Great Hall of the People on Nov 17.

Wuxi has won the reputation of a National Civilized City for its strong economy and beautiful image since 2015.

According to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Wuxi has become the most livable city in the Chinese mainland, thanks to its transportation, sponge city projects and other schemes to improve the quality of life for its citizens.

The city has also taken steps to advocate Chinese traditional virtues and environmental protection, with many of its residents having won prestigious awards for their moral conduct, and launching several eco-friendly events – such as the Tour of Taihu Lake.

Yuan Fei, minister of Wuxi publicity, said that it is with great pride that Wuxi has become the first National Civilized City cluster of China.

"Each citizen in Wuxi should take an active part in making the city a wonderful place to live, every small action has bigger and positive repercussions in the long run," Yuan said.
