North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region will increase investment in education for the elderly, with plans to build 500 universities for the elderly by 2020.

It aims to improve the education level in the region and promote the construction of a lifelong education system.

At present, education for the elderly in the region faces significant problems, including a lack of teachers and funding. The region has established more universities for the elderly this year, with the aim of providing education for more than 20 percent of seniors in the region.

In 2018, Inner Mongolia will select pilot areas in the region and offer policy support and funding for them to provide education for the elderly. The region will also promote its universities and colleges to share resources with seniors, such as libraries, equipment and courses.
