teamLab, a Tokyo-based art group, recently opened a permanent exhibition pavilion in Xiamen in Southeast China's Fujian province.

The pavilion is situated at the port city's Smart Hero Club, and is teamLab's first permanent exhibition place in China. teamLab is an interdisciplinary collective creative group that gathers more than 400 professionals from various fields to create installations combining technology and art.

The pavilion is composed of two parts—Future Park and Crystal Universe, and Future Park is designed to create a fantastic world for children.

At the Sketch Aquarium in Future Park, children can observe the power of their creative imagination. Each child is invited to color a drawing of a sea creature of his or her preference. Once completed, the paper is scanned and the image is projected into a giant virtual aquarium where children are able to see their creation come to life and swim with all of the other sea creatures.

Meanwhile, Crystal Universe is a dazzling visual space created by an accumulation of light points. In Crystal Universe, the particles of light are digitally controlled and change based on the viewer’s interactivity with the work.

Viewers are invited to enter and walk around within the three-dimensional light space. This movement affects the light particles and creates changes in how the installation is perceived.
