Student auto designs impress in national contest

A special automobile design competition for students from 72 universities across China ended on Nov 13 with three students winning the top three design awards.  

The competition was held by the GAC Automotive Engineering Institute, the strategic planning and new technologies and products R&D division for Guangzhou Automobile Group.

During the competition, the young designers gave full play to their ingenious minds and displayed innovative automobile designs.

"Designing has been a key part of my life and I am glad that GAC Automotive Engineering Institute offers us this platform," said Jiang Jinlin from Southeast University who was crowned champion of the event and dubbed a "GAC Design Star".

According to Zhang Fan, vice president of GAC Automotive Engineering Institute, the competition aims to provide students majoring in vehicle design with the resources of GAC to learn more about automobile design and at the same time absorb innovative ideas from young minds for the institute.

Wang Qiujing, president of GAC Automotive Engineering Institute, said the competition is just a start for the institute's endeavor to seek and foster more talents for the Chinese automobile industry.

According to Wang, the GAC Automotive Engineering Institute has been committed to cultivating talents for the automobile industry. Over the past five years, nearly 700 students from across the world have gained internships in the institute and 131 of them became official employees.
