Guangzhou to build regenerative medicine lab

Guangzhou is to build a special laboratory focusing on regenerative medicine and healthcare, it was announced at the 10th Guangzhou International Conference on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine on Nov 11.

Wen Guohui, mayor of Guangzhou, Wang Dong, vice mayor of Guangzhou, Zhang Yaping, vice president of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Rudolf Jaenisch, academician of National Academy of Sciences, and Pei Gang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the inauguration ceremony and unveiled a plaque for the lab.

Located on the Guangzhou International Bio Island, the lab will cover an area of 110 hectares. It will include a core fundamental research area, R&D and pre-production area, clinical research area and industrialization area.

The lab will make full use of Guangzhou's advantageous resources in stem cell and regenerative medicine, integrate global high-end talents, technologies and financial capital, occupy the commanding heights of the biological medicine industry and promote the development of related industrial clusters.

The 10th Guangzhou International Conference on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine was held from Nov 10 to 12 in Huangpu district. The conference featured many famous academicians and experts from both home and abroad, gathered to share insights and achievements in the field of stem cell research and regenerative medicine technologies.
