New Zealand aquatic products showcased at CFSE

The 22nd China Fisheries and Seafood Expo (CFSE) was held in China's sailing capital Qingdao from Nov 1 to 3. One of its highlights was New Zealand's pure and high-quality seafood products, showcased by the New Zealand Trade and Development Bureau and nine of the country's outstanding seafood companies.

With a coastline of 15,134 kilometers, New Zealand has pure and pollution-free water. Its vast sea area has rich marine resources. In addition, proper protection policies and careful cultivation of seafood have earned New Zealand the world title for sustainable fisheries management.

New Zealand exports seafood to global markets, providing a sustainable, reliable and safe seafood supply chain. As a world-class seafood exporter, New Zealand focuses on the protection of environmental resources and its fishing operations, which adhere to a quota system, size limits and strict rules to reduce the risk of overfishing. As a result, it ensures the natural pure quality and fresh taste of its marine aquatic products.

Every year New Zealand exports 130 kinds of seafood, about 17 percent of them special high-grade products, to international markets. In value they amount to about 1.79 billion New Zealand dollars.

China is New Zealand's largest seafood export market with an annual volume of about 578 million NZD, which is increasing year by year.

The nine exhibiting seafood companies each have their own characteristics.

Fiordland Lobster Co, a supplier of New Zealand rock lobsters worldwide, is a leader in the live lobster export industry.

Port Nicholson Lobster Co markets rock lobsters from A-class to the highest quality F-class. Rock lobsters taste sweet and lush. They live in clean waters in the southern hemisphere, where their growth cycle is very slow. They cannot be cultured and can only be caught through wild fishing, which makes them a greater luxury.

New Zealand greenshell mussels taste juicy and are rich in protein and trace elements. Kono NZLP specializes in the production and export of greenshell mussels.

Future Cuisine not only offers a variety of greenshell mussel products, but also markets seafood such as New Zealand blackfin, king salmon and oysters.

Moana New Zealand is run entirely by local Maori who adhere to their traditional principle of protecting the environment. Its products include a variety of high-quality seafood such as deep-sea finned fish, blueshell abalones, pacific oysters and lobsters.

The New Zealand deep-sea crayfish from Oravida are sweet and tender. The company also provides other seafood treasures such as king salmon, mussels, longevity fish and Antarctic toothfish.

Vela Fisheries Co specializes in a variety of deep-sea squid, shellfish and mussels.

Pauaco provides high-quality canned abalone. The company has a temperature control team and working mother ships to guarantee the freshness of their product from sea to the customer's table.

Sealord Group has ranked first among New Zealand's integrated fisheries brands for many years. The company offers a wide variety of wild deep-sea fish that are not frozen to ensure the highest quality.

Only meticulous treatment and cooking will not waste the delicious bounty from the ocean. During a cooking session at the expo, a chef showed visitors how to prepare some dishes.

In addition to its high-quality seafood, New Zealand brought to the expo a wonderful Maori HAKA war dance performance, an element of authentic Maori culture.
