The inaugural Dabei Cup National College Student UAV Surveying and Mapping Skills Competition was held in Zhenping county, Nanyang from Nov 3 to 5.

Hosted by the National Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation Professional Education Guidance Committee, the event was divided into two parts, data collecting and image processing, in order to test contestant's abilities to manipulate UAVs and process image data.

Out of 38 teams representing vocational schools from 19 cities and municipalities, Shandong Water Conservancy Vocational College, Henan College of Surveying and Mapping, Kunming Metallurgy College and Henan Polytechnic Institute stood out and were awarded the grand prize.

UAV surveying and mapping is a precise, low-cost and user-friendly technology that plays an important role in construction, geographical monitoring and emergency response for disasters.

The competition is of great importance to talent cultivation in this field, bringing new theories, technologies and methods into colleges, said deputy director of the committee.
