Azaleas amaze at Liuhua Lake Park

Liuhua Lake Park will host an exhibition of blooming azaleas of all different colors and varieties until Nov 20, as a part of the government's push to improve and promote greenery across the city.

With more than 150 types of azaleas on show covering four main exhibition areas, families are being encouraged to make the most of autumnal blossoms before winter gets underway.

Highlights of the exhibition include a three-meter-tall azalea tree which is more than 150 years as well as a special azalea shrub with multicolored flowers.

According to the administration of forestry and gardening of Guangzhou municipality, on top of enjoying blooming azaleas at Liuhua Lake Park, people can also admire the blossoms along the city's bridges and overpasses.

Guangzhou has been striving to improve greenery along its main streets, avenues and city entrances and exits. Currently, there are more than 200,000 flowering plants that have been planted in Guangzhou including kapoks, Chinese redbuds and golden bell trees.

The city is planning to apply for the China Habitat Environment Example Prize, the top prize granted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development for cities that have achieved great success in improving their living environments.
