In the report he delivered to the opening session of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping used a whole chapter to elaborate on how to build stronger confidence in China's own culture and help socialist culture flourish.
Xi pointed out that culture is the soul of the country, and the country can thrive only if its culture thrives. The nation can only be strong if its culture is strong. Without full confidence in our culture, without a rich and prosperous culture the Chinese nation will not be able to rejuvenate itself, Xi said.
Xi urged the development of a socialist culture with Chinese characteristics, in order to add new luster to Chinese culture.
Xi pointed out that socialist culture with Chinese characteristics is derived from China's fine traditional culture, the revolutionary and advanced socialist culture that developed over the course of the Chinese people's revolution, as well as construction and reform under the Party's leadership.
Xi's report shows the significance of confidence in culture to the country and the nation. As socialism with Chinese characteristics steps into the new era, building a strong culture should be promoted in line with people's desire for a better life.
