Curtain descends on Guangdong Sports Games

The fourth Guangdong Sports Games came to a close at Huizhou Cultural Arts Center on Oct 17. Shenzhen won 23 gold medals, 12 silver and 12 bronze with a delegation of more than 300 athletes.

The Guangdong Sports Games are the largest non-Olympic comprehensive sports games held in Guangdong province. This time they lasted for more than two months from July to Oct. The 21 delegations of more than 5,000 athletes participated in 219 sports events in pursuit of 195 gold medals, not to mention silver and bronze.

In recent years, mass sports have been growing and thriving in Shenzhen, as the concept of athleticism gradually took root in people's minds. To show the encouraging results, a series of athletes were selected from the general public by the Shenzhen Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau. They epitomized the "mass participation" spirit of the games.

At the games, the Shenzhen delegation participated in shuttlecock, chess and cards, qigong, tai chi, lion dancing and other events. Not only winning high group scores, Shenzhen was also awarded prizes for its sportsmanship and organizational work.
