Nanyang agricultural products popular in overseas market

The export value of agricultural products in Nanyang exceeded 5 billion yuan ($759 million) over the past year, accounting for 40 percent of the provincial figure and ranking first in Henan province.

The city was named a National Demonstration City for Quality of Export Agricultural Products by General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on Sept 9, 2016.

Ever since, the qualified rate of its export agricultural products kept rising and reached 99.7 percent, 1.6 percentage points higher than the provincial average. Its brand awareness and effect also continued to grow.

Knockout products such as shiitake mushroom and kiwi from Xixia county as well as beef from Xinye county all enjoy great reputations both at home and abroad. Almost 70 percent of shiitake mushrooms in the Japanese market are from Xixia.

The annual export value of edible fungi and its associated products were up to 4.2 billion yuan, while that of garlic reached 220 million yuan, tea 160 million yuan, and pepper 110 billion yuan.
