Four new stretches of metro line will open in Guangzhou by December, Guangzhou Metro announced on Sept 30.

The new extensions to the metro network set to open include the southern extension of Line 4, the first phase of lines 9 and 13, and the Knowledge City Line running from Xinhe to Zhenlong.

Construction on the Line 4, 9 and 13 projects is already complete, according to Guangzhou Metro, with the new sections set to come online as soon as preliminary tests and adjustments are complete.

Work on the Knowledge City Line is expected to be completed in November and the line should become operational by the end of the year.

The four projects will add 81.4 kilometers of new line to Guangzhou's metro network, bringing the total network to nearly 350 km.

The city in South China takes great pride in its metro network, which is currently the third longest in China.

Guangzhou Metro has the highest service reliability and the lowest crime rate among the world's 32 largest metro systems, according to a 2016 survey made by the Community of Metros (CoMet), the global association of metro operators.
