Guangzhou is a city of bookworms. Or at least that's what the latest statistics from Guangzhou Library suggest.

During the eight days of National Day holiday, 228,500 people flocked to Guangzhou Library and borrowed 268,300 books.

One the busiest day of all, October 5, an amazing 35,440 crammed into the library.

Some visitors are local regulars. They tend to stay long hours to make full use of the long holiday. Many young students carried backpacks or even suitcases to borrow numerous books.

Plenty of tourists also paid a visit, since Guangzhou Library is the largest and most modern library in China and is famous across the country.

Others, it appears, ended up in the library by accident. They followed the large crowd into the library, assuming it were a large shopping mall. For some, we hope it might have been a happy accident!
