Yang Jiechi meets with National Security Advisor to the UK Prime Minister Mark Sedwill

On October 9, 2017, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met in Beijing with National Security Advisor to the UK Prime Minister Mark Sedwill.

Yang Jiechi expressed that the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be convened soon. It is an important meeting held at a crucial moment for completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and for the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which is of great and profound significance. Expecting the success of the 19th CPC National Congress, China stands ready to continue to uphold the concept of win-win cooperation and make joint efforts with all parties including the UK to promote the building of the community of common destiny for all mankind. It is believed that the 19th CPC National Congress will provide new impetus for the development of China’s foreign relations including China-UK relations. China is willing to make continuous efforts with the UK to jointly build the “Golden Era” of bilateral relations.

Mark Sedwill expressed that the international community pays high attention to the 19th CPC National Congress. The outcomes of the congress will exert significant influence both on China and the world. Congratulating beforehand on the complete success of the 19th CPC National Congress, the UK is willing to take it as an opportunity to further promote the in-depth development of bilateral relations.

The two sides also exchanged views on the issues including the situation on the Korean Peninsula. The UK appreciates China’s stance to make efforts to promote peace talks and stands ready to strengthen communication and cooperation with China.
