Guangzhou artist Xu Hongfei's life-size sculptures of plump women, often in gravity-defying postures, are currently on display at Rome's Vittoriano Art Gallery.

As part of the 2017 Guangzhou Culture Week, the exhibition, lasting until Oct 21, is putting the city's art and culture at the world's doorstep. It is hosted by the Guangzhou culture, radio, television, press and publications bureau and the Association of Contemporary Art and Culture – China and Italy.

It is Xu's 10th exhibition held in Italy. Since graduating from the Department of Sculpture, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1990, Xu's works have been described as "vivid, humorous and adorable", as well as being well-received in international art hubs such as Italy.

Altogether 29 pieces are currently on display, including a new work especially dedicated to Rome, which integrates elements of the city's long-lasting musical culture.

Prior to the Rome stop, Xu has held his world tour exhibition in 24 cities including Paris, London, Istanbul and Hamburg.

Lu Zhiqiang, head of the bureau, said that Xu's world exhibition tour plays a positive role in promoting the going-out of Guangzhou culture and art.
