Nanyang promotes sci-tech on national day

To celebrate National Popular Science Day on Sept 22, the Nanyang municipal government hosted a series of activities in the square of the city's Civilian Service Center.

National Popular Science Day is held in China in September each year to raise awareness and increase the popularity of science among the public. This year's theme was innovation-driven development.

An array of stands was set up by different organizations, enterprises and associations to hand out promotional materials and showcase the latest achievements in scientific and technological innovation.

Free medical consultations given and small experiments performed to encourage greater public participation. A dancing robot proved popular, along with a 3D printer and meteorological science popularization vehicle.

The event was supported by the Nanyang Association for Science and Technology, the bureaus of education, science and technology, environmental protection, meteorology, and earthquakes and the Nanyang Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

"With the city entering a crucial period for poverty relief, state-owned enterprise reform, transformation and development, environmental governance, innovation and entrepreneurship, scientific and technological progress and innovation-driven development are needed more than ever," said Wang Zhihui, vice Party secretary for Nanyang.
