On September 27, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi of Jordan.

Wang Yi said that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Jordan. Attaching great importance to developing the strategic partnership with Jordan, China hopes the two countries would support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and promote bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, energy resource, culture, education and other fields under the "Belt and Road" framework. China will always support Jordan's efforts in safeguarding national stability and pursuing reform and development, and supports Jordan to play a greater role in regional affairs.

Wang Yi expressed that China appreciates Jordan for requesting the so-called Foreign Representative Office of Taiwan in Jordan to change its name in accordance with the one-China policy. The one-China policy serves as the premise for China and the world to maintain and develop friendly relations. It is believed that this move is in favor of further enhancement of China-Jordan political mutual trust and will lay a more solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations in various fields.

Ayman Safadi expressed that requesting the Taiwanese representative office to change name was a political decision made by leaders of Jordan. The Jordanian side has strictly followed the one-China policy and implemented it with practical actions and will continue adhering to the policy in the future. Attaching great importance to bilateral relations and China's remarkable role in global and regional affairs, Jordan expects to jointly build the "Belt and Road" and deepen practical cooperation with China. It is hoped that China could play a greater role in addressing the crisis in the Middle East and facilitating development of the region.
