The 2017 World Flower Council Annual Summit (2017 WFCAS), which has been dubbed as "the Olympics of the flower industry", got underway in Guangzhou on Sept 19, with florists from 32 countries showcasing their floral works.

It is the first time for the event to be held in China and this year, different from previous events, features a range of exhibitions and activities open to the public. Exhibitions will be held in Guangzhou's iconic buildings including the main venue of the Guangzhou Opera House and sub-venues Guangzhou Second Children's Palace and Yuexiu Park.

At Guangzhou Opera House, nearly 200 floral works by world famous florists under different themes are on display from Sept 19 to 24. On Sept 20, visitors were also treated to flower arrangement performances given by floral masters including Poo Chesdmethee, vice president of the World Flower Council.

While at Yuexiu Park, visitors can enjoy special floral works featuring Lingnan elements and a flower exhibition with exhibits created by florists, gardeners, flower enthusiasts and children.

To get more people involved in the event and immersed in flower culture, special lectures and trainings on flower arranging and flower decoration were held in some communities of the city.
