Yantai awarded for public security governance

The coastal city of Yantai in East China's Shandong province received the honorary title of "National Outstanding City in Comprehensive Management of Public Security" at an event in Beijing on Sept 19.

The conference is held to recognize individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to public security governance in the past five years.

This is the seventh consecutive time that Yantai has received the highest national honor for management of political and legal affairs. The honor is granted every four years by the Committee of Comprehensive Management of Public Security and the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Yantai has always attached great importance to promoting social harmony and security and the rule of law.

The city has established a legal assistance system in its rural areas, in which the town governments employ practicing lawyers to provide legal consulting services, legal training sessions and legal assistance for the public.

Legal service centers have been set up in many towns and rural communities, which help deal with more than 20,000 legal disputes every year, since 2013.

The city is also accelerating the installation of closed-circuit TV and video surveillance systems in enterprises, public buildings, residential communities and rural areas. So far, more than 110,000 monitoring cameras have been installed in the city.

Yantai has also been making efforts to create professional mediation systems to solve issues related to doctor-patient disputes, labor disputes, traffic accidents, insurance, land expropriations and housing demolitions.

In the first half of the year, Yantai has dealt with 105 cases related to food and drug safety and environmental protection, in which more than 100 illegal factories and gangs were busted.
