A dazzling array of the latest internet of things (IoT) products is being displayed at the World Internet of Things Expo (WIOT) in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, Wuxi Daily reported on Sept 13.

IoT is the interconnection of any physical device, which allows information to be detected and to flow freely, remotely controlled through a network.

Kanglian Changxiang, a Beijing-based tech start-up, exhibited a nebulizer at the expo capable of providing home treatment to patients with chronic bronchitis. Relying on IoT technologies, the smart device can also collect and send patients'data to hospitals to help coordinate treatment.

The company says it has cooperated with pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and several hospitals in Wuxi to promote its products.

Another prominent example of the application of IoT technologies lies in sports.

The Wuxi municipal Sports Industry Group has adopted an IoT-based system to realize intelligent management of sports venues, including parking, lighting, and ticketing to boost overall efficiency.

IoT technologies have made people’s lives easier and smarter, and the city of Wuxi will invest more to seize IoT opportunities in the future, said Mayor Wang Quan during a tour of the expo on Sept 12.

Wuxi became the country’s first and only demonstration area for IoT in 2009, and has witnessed a boom in the industry, which generated revenues of 210 billion yuan ($31.9 billion) in 2016.

The WIOT gets underway in Wuxi from Sept 10 to 13.
