Weather service promotes Sanmenxia walnut harvest

The walnut harvest season has begun in Sanmenxia, Henan province, providing great quantities of fresh walnuts to the market.

A group of staff from the Sanmenxia Meteorological Bureau recently assisted a walnut cultivation base in Qiaowa village, sending special weather forecasts and updates on inclement weather to better guide farmers during the walnut harvest.

The bureau sends weather forecasts and warnings to local agricultural departments, weather officers and walnut growers through WeChat, mobile phone texts and other chat apps to assist in planning a timely harvest.

Promoting special industries and helping farmers increase production has become a priority for the Sanmenxia Meteorological Bureau this year. During the crucial farming season, the bureau discusses preventive measures with agriculture experts, sending disaster warnings and production suggestions to weather officers and walnut growers. It also provides a number of follow-up services to ensure the sustainable development of the local walnut industry.
