Taiwan invests $21.6 billion in Guangzhou

As of June 2017, Guangzhou has given the green light to a total of 3,136 Taiwan-invested projects at a total of $21.6 billion.

The statistic was revealed at the 25th anniversary ceremony of the Guangzhou Taiwan-funded Enterprises Association (GTEA), which was held in Guangzhou on Aug 28.

More than 800 people attended the ceremony, including Hou Zhenfu, deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, and Lu Yixian, director of the united front work department of the Guangzhou municipal committee of the CPC.

As of now, the number of GTEA's members has reached 1,400.

"GTEA has played a key role in enhancing the cooperation between Guangzhou and Taiwan-funded enterprises," said Lu in his speech at the ceremony.

In recent years, Guangzhou has rolled out a series of policies to support Taiwan-based companies in terms of key technology development, the introduction of high technologies, new products development and production line upgrades.

"We hope that Guangzhou will deepen its relationship with Taiwan-funded enterprises and focus on great strategies, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, Made in China 2025 and Internet Plus," Lu added.

Wang Zhizhong, head of GTEA, said the association will continue to serve Taiwan-funded companies, help them better develop in Guangzhou, promote technological innovation and guide young people from Taiwan to start businesses in Guangzhou.
