A total of 23 street artists received permission to perform in Guangzhou after they passed a special evaluation held at Zhengjia Theater on Aug 21, local media reported.

The performers, consisting of professional and folk artists, demonstrated a wide range of skills during the test such as operatic singing, instrument playing, physical theater and extreme sports.

Each performer was given four minutes to impress the judges, their performances rated according to four criteria, including interactivity and how representative the performance is of societal values. Once they had passed the test, each was given a certificate which allows them to perform outdoors in public places of Guangzhou including at the city's famous scenic spot Huacheng Square.
