Wuxi will hold a business matchmaking event aiming to attract hundreds of China's leading researchers to move to companies in the Jiangsu province city on Aug 26-27, officials announced on Aug 22.

Wuxi government is organizing the event in collaboration with the Association of Thousand Talents Program, the body that operates China's national program for attracting the world's top talent to work for Chinese companies.

More than 200 members of the Thousand Talents Program will attend the two-day event, where they will meet with high-tech companies based in Wuxi.

Held as part of the World Internet of Things Expo (WIOT), which will be held in Wuxi from Sept 10 to 13, the event is designed to support Wuxi's push to become the center of China's rapidly growing IoT industry.

The number of IoT companies based in the city has mushroomed from around 100 in 2010 to more than 1,000 in 2016, and the government has also begun building China's first "IoT town" in Hongshan.

The matchmaking event will help attract even more high-tech companies to Wuxi by organizing hundreds of meetings between tech professionals and business owners and local companies and industrial parks.

Representatives from more than 500 research and start-up projects from China and abroad are expected to meet with Wuxi-based companies, institutes and industrial zones during the event, officials confirmed.

The event will also feature 12 sub-activities, including a main summit, a forum about the innovative HR services in the manufacturing sector, a welcoming ceremony for new entrants to the Thousand Talents Program, a matchmaking symposium about industry-university-research cooperation, a concert for returned overseas Chinese students and other activities focusing on fields such as intelligent manufacturing, new energy and biomedicine.

Zhou Ying, director of the organization department of Wuxi Party committee, said that the meeting, focusing on professionals in high-tech industries, would be a good platform to introduce talented people to Wuxi and build the city into a highland for talent and advanced industries.
