The 26th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival will commence at Hohhot’s Wulanqiate Grand Theatre, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Sept 13.

The event, consisting of a series of ceremonies and exhibitions, is to honor excellent films and individuals for their devotion to the film industry, and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Guangying Suiyue (meaning "days with movies" in Chinese) created by Zhang Shuyan, a composer from Inner Mongolia, stood out among 11 competitors to be chosen to produce the theme song of the festival, an official of the organizing committee revealed at a press conference in Beijing on Aug 16.

More than 100 films from around the world will be shown during the festival, including 30 new Chinese films and 25 international productions from 18 countries, including Italy, Iran, Japan and Israel.

Some films made by members of Chinese ethnic groups will also be on display in a specially-designed segment, with The Great Genghis Khan as the opening production, telling the story of the 13th-century Mongolian warrior.

Together with the festival are a Belt and Road International Film Seminar, which aims to promote cultural exchange among nations, and three summit forums to discuss the innovation and upgrading of the film industry.

Starting in 1992, the film festival is China’s version of the Academy Awards, sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the China Film Association.
