The semifinal of the 2nd China's Dual-use Technology Innovation and Application Competition was held in Xinwu district, Wuxi, East China’s Jiangsu province on Aug 16.

Covering seven technology fields, including the new generation of information technology, new materials, high-end CNC machine tools and robots, the competition aims to promote technological innovation in both the civil and military fields and accelerate wide application of innovative achievements.

A total of 326 entries from both private and State-owned enterprises are involved in the semifinals, of which 87 entries in the field of the new generation of information technology will be on display on Aug 17 in the Wuxi division.

Of the seventeen Wuxi projects participating in the contest, three, all from local Wuxi private enterprises active in electronic information technology, shipping and new materials, scraped into the semi-final.

Recently, private enterprises have taken an active part in technological innovation of civil-military integration.

"More and more private enterprises pay attention to the dual-use competition which provides a platform to widen their horizons, promote research and innovation ability and obtain a deeper understanding of military market demand," explained Zhang Zhiping, the expert judge of the competition.

Wuxi has proposed policies to promote deep integration in different fields such as Internet of Things, cloud computing and military manufacturing. Moreover an industrial cluster in the fields of aviation, spaceflight, marine engineering, shipping, new materials, and information security has been formed to accelerate technological innovation.

Changzhou in Jiangsu province, Xiangtan in Hunan province and Ganzhou in Jiangxi province will host the semi-finals in  new energy, shipping and new materials in late August and the final competition will be hosted in Chengdu, Sichuan province on Sept 26.
