A pair of young violinists from Nanyang impressed the jury with their performances at the Vienna International Music Competition recently.

Held at the University of Vienna, the competition is held in cooperation with the China Music Talent Program. The Chinese segment of the contest was held from April to June this year, with the winners being sent to compete in the final in the Austrian capital.

Li Xuefei, 10, and Ding Junbo, 12, were the only two contestants from Henan province to make it through to the finals. On the international stage, they played the first and third movements of Piano Concerto No 1 in G major, respectively.

Speaking after the competition, both children said that despite the gravity of the contest, they approach it the same way as they would any other.

Bai Yali, associate professor of Nanyang Institute of Technology and ,tutor to Li and Ding, said they both performed extremely well.
