Atlas on Greater Bay Area released

Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey has released the "Resource and Environment Atlas of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area", Nanfang Daily reported on Aug 2.

As an important decision-making reference, copies of the atlas have been sent to relevant national ministries and municipal governments of nine cities covered in the atlas. The Guangdong Geological Bureau, China Aero Geophysical Survey and Remote Sensing Center, Department of Ocean and Fishery and the Department of Land Resources of Guangdong Province participated in the mapping.

The atlas has six parts with 55 illustrations. It covers areas including resources, environmental conditions of land planning, city layouts, and industrial distribution, as well as the state of environmental protection and disaster prevention, said Qin Xuwen, the chief editor of the atlas who is also the deputy director general of Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey.

The greater bay area has land reserves measuring about 7,225 square kilometers. The area promises great potential for development. Selenium-rich soil covers 35,830 square kilometres which accounts for 64 percent of the entire area covering Jiangmen, Zhaoqing, Foshan, and Huizhou. The area also has abundant tourism resources.
