Export value of Zhanjiang's aquatic product for the first half of the year hit a record high of 2.22 billion yuan ($330 million), an increase of 39.8 percent according to a report by Zhanjiang Customs.

The record output of 54,000 tons was sold at 41,000 yuan ($6095) per ton representing 33.6 percent and 4.6 percent year-on-year growth respectively.

Combined export share of private aquatic firms witnessed a 36.6 percent increase, accounting for 32,000 tons representing 59 percent of Zhanjiang's total export. Foreign firms exported 22,000 tons of products, a 29.5 percent year-on-year increase.

Tilapia, shrimps and prawns remained Zhanjiang's main exports, accounting for 80.9 percent of the total aquatic exports. Processed tilapia, shrimps, prawns, and frozen tilapia recorded impressive growth of 38 percent, 52.5 percent and 41.6 percent respectively.

The US, Mexico, Cote d'Ivoire and Singapore were Zhanjiang's largest export markets, accounting for 70.3 percent of total exports. Export to these markets increased by 22.5 percent, 57 percent, 29.6 percent and 71.6 percent respectively.

The increases were credited to efficient customs services in Zhanjiang. An exclusive customs clearance channel has been established for perishable aquatic products, allowing for timely inspections of such products. Zhanjiang has also provided around-the-clock online services enabling aquatic products exporters to go through customs procedures online.
