A facial recognition system has been installed in a community in Wuxi's Xinwu district thanks to the help of the local police station, guaranteeing a safer living environment for residents.

Xinfengyuan community on Fangqian Street is the resettlement housing built by the government to accommodate those affected by demolitions. Since most of the relocated households own more than one house, they choose to lease their houses in the community to non-permanent residents.

Nearly 90 percent of the community's estimated 8,000 population are non-permanent residents, which poses a greater challenge to the local police station's security efforts.

To ensure community security, Fangqian police station has deployed policemen to patrol the community and installed surveillance cameras to monitor the neighborhood.

At the end of April, Fangqian police station paid a visit to the community and talked to the residents. Since many houses in the community are rented out, residents complained that it made them feel unsafe to frequently see unfamiliar faces. They wished the police could speed up information collection on the migrant population and strengthen security management.
