Lantou village, located in Huadu district of Guangzhou, was built during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and has a history of more than 600 years. The village was added to the list of China's famous historic and cultural villages in 2014 and is a typical Guangdong village with a long tradition of self-study and farming.

The plan aims to protect the authenticity of the historic and cultural aspects of the village along with improving living conditions, transport, infrastructure and defense against seasonal disasters such as flooding.

Key protection will be provided for 18 ancient ancestral halls which were built in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). The current status and existing problems of 468 buildings in the village will be recorded and analyzed, with 21 collapsed buildings to be restored to their original appearance.

The plan also aims to make better use of the ancient buildings, turning them into assets which can be used to boost rural tourism, featuring recreational agriculture, catering and hotels.

Moreover, the plan also suggests that museums and exhibition halls be established in some of Langtou's well-preserved buildings to showcase its intangible cultural heritages.
