The Neixiang Urban Administration & Law Enforcement Bureau recently rolled out a series of policies to reduce air pollution and improve air quality in the county.

A key part of the policy involves water spraying vehicles being deployed in the downtown area to reduce dust build up on busy roads.

In areas with heavy pedestrian traffic and street vendors, banners will be put up as well as brochures handed out encourage people to use less coal at a grassroots level.

Earlier this year, merchants at Neixiang’s night market signed an agreement to improve general sanitation and ensure exhaust fans are used when cooking outdoors. Companies that create waste from construction are also being urged to use special designated areas and remove their rubbish in a efficient and timely manner.

In the first half of this year, local authorities banned 13 stalls without smoke exhausts in the night market, fined 18 trucks for violation of regulations and cleaned an 8,500-square-meter contaminated area.
