The counties of Neixiang, Tongbai and Xichuan in Nanyang, Henan province, have been listed as 2017 national e-commerce demonstration counties, according to a notice recently released by the Henan authorities.

A total of five counties have been entered on the national e-commerce county list since the central government launched the evaluation criteria in July 2014.

By relying on rich agricultural products and huge online shopping opportunities, Nanyang has experienced leapfrog development in the e-commerce industry.

In 2016, Nanyang netted 39.2 billion yuan ($5.77 billion) in e-commerce turnover, 70 percent more than the same period of last year, ranking third in Henan province.

As of now, Nanyang has more than 63,000 online shops and almost 3,000 registered e-commerce businesses, with 18 county-level operation centers from e-commerce giants like Suning, Taobao and JD.
