A Baotou paper-cutting exhibition will start a national tour with a launch at the Inner Mongolia Library, according to a report in Baotou Daily.

Paper-cutting is one of the most important folk arts in China, with a history that can be traced back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) when Cai Lun invented paper.

Baotou paper-cutting incorporates grassland and nomadic culture into art, and was listed as part of China’s cultural heritage in 2010.

Baotou put on a paper-cutting exhibition in Yueyang, Hunan province, on May 15, with 60 paper-cutting works from the city.
