The International Big Data expo 2017 got underway in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province on May 25, with delegates from internationally leading companies in the big data industry in attendance.

Neil Mendelson, vice president of Big Data and Advanced Analytics of Oracle, a US-based computer technology corporation, praised Guiyang for its strong development in big data.

"The rapid development of the internet and big data industry in China in recent years is really surprising," Mendelson said.

"Attending the expo is a great opportunity for Oracle to communicate with local big data enterprises, and learn more about their demands, which I believe it’s beneficial to both sides."

Before the expo, Mendelson walked around the city, and visited some local popular tourist attractions such as the Jiaxiu Building next to Nanming River, a building built during Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to honor the first scholars.

"Guiyang is a lovely city with a lot of greenery, and I like the Nanming River and the special ancient buildings."
