A total of 15 drama performers including famous Cantonese Opera artists Su Chunmei and Zeng Xiaomin won the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, the top award for theater performances in China, on May 22 at the 28th Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award hosted at Guangzhou Opera House.

The closing ceremony took the opportunity to stage some wonderful scenes covering a range of operatic genres including Kunqu Opera's Peony Pavilion and Wuju Opera's the Legend of the White Snake.

As the topmost award for Chinese drama performance, this year's Plum Blossom Award sought to both innovate the art form while celebrating classical works.

“The inheritance of Cantonese Opera is of great importance and I hope I can cultivate more young talented performers in the future,” said Su Chunmei, deputy director of Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theatre and winner of this year's Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award.
