GMA reopens to public

After a two-month renovation, Guangzhou Museum of Art (GMA) reopened to the public on May 1, adding a refreshing look to a cultural icon of the city. 

There are seven long-term exhibitions open to the public – the Lingnan Painting exhibition, Liao Bingxiong Comics exhibition in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-45), Shiwan Sculpture exhibition, Yang Zhiguang Painting exhibition, Yi Jichang Sculpture exhibition, Ou Chu Painting Exhibition and Ma Sichong Music-related exhibition. 

An extra four exhibitions will be on display at the museum from May 18, International Museum Day – Lai Shaoqi Board Painting exhibition from May 16, Chinese Han Painting exhibition from May 18 to Aug 28, Rong Geng Calligraphy exhibition from May 26 to Aug 27, and Xu Hongfei Porcelain Painting exhibition from May 10 to 31. 

The museum will also initiate four art-related education activities, including a lecture delivered by Li Jingkun, director of Lingnan Painting School Museum, a lecture about Xuzhou stone carving. The activities can be attended by 300 and 50 people, respectively. 

GMA is among the largest art museums in South China and is a multifunctional unit of collection, research, display, exhibition, education, communication and entertainment. There are 19 exhibition halls, including a multifunctional exhibition hall, a storehouse, a restoration studio and an appreciation hall. GMA is famous for its modern and professional facilities and affluent artistic aura.
