Pingtan through the lens

Gao Yu, an amateur photographer from Pingtan has shot thousands of pictures over the past nine years in his quest to record the beauty of his hometown.

Captured within his lens, Gao stock in trade is focusing on the little things that are often overlooked or forget in day-to-day life.

Never leaving the house with his trusty shooter by his side, Gao has plastered all aspects of Pingtan to the digital emulsion of his high definition sensor.

"Taking photos is like bumping into someone on the street," says Gao. "Capturing those unscripted and transient provides life within the frame."
