Baotou city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region has partnered with Monash University from Australia to build a technology transfer center to commercialize technological achievements for industrial development, reported Baotou Daily.

Following the setting up of the center, Baotou and Monash University will build an international high-tech industrialization platform to absorb and commercialize the latest technological advances.

The move shows Baotou’s growing emphasis on the integration of research and production, and will provide impetus to the city’s innovation drive, according to Ye Weibing, deputy mayor of the city, speaking at a ceremony on March 29.

As one of the most well-known institutions in Australia, Monash University has accumulated a wealth of experience in areas such as information technology, materials and machinery.

According to local media, in the near future, Baotou will enhance cooperation with Monash University to promote research into rare earths and new materials. The agreement between the two universities is expected to boost Sino-Australian relations.
