Shenyang exports first furfural to Japan

A total of 16 tons of furfural produced from corn stover was successfully exported to Japan, according to information from Shenyang entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau on March 27.

Furfural is a kind of organic chemical raw material, which is widely used in medicines, synthetic resin, rubber and dye.

It was the first time Shenyang has exported furfural after its application of new technologies for producing furfural by using corn stover, while the previous furfural production method could only make use of the corn cob rather than the whole corn stover, which has low utilization efficiency.

Therefore, the newly-applied technologies have tackled the problem. It is expected to increase farmers’ income and play an important role in air pollution prevention and control, while maintaining Shenyang as a furfural production base in Liaoning province
