Lushunkou's 2016 agricultural sector output hits 4.27 billion yuan

Lushunkou, a district of Dalian, Liaoning province, had a bumper year in 2016. It harvested 189,700 tons of grain, vegetables and fruit, 48,000 tons of meat, milk and eggs, and 206,000 tons of seafood. Its farming, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery and service industries yielded a total value of 4.27 billion yuan (about $6.18 billion) and an added value of 2016 billion yuan, according to the Lushunkou district government. 

The harvest can be attributed to a strategic change by the local government. In the past years, by probing into the needs of the market and the advantage in its agro-resources, Lushunkou decided to pay special attention to five areas, namely high quality fruits, organically-grown vegetables, valuable flowers, meat, egg and milk products and sea foods. Lushunkou currently has a planting area of 140,000 mu, including 40,000 mu for growing field crops, 20,000 mu for vegetables and 80,000 mu of orchard, adjusting the grain-crop ratio to 3: 7.

Lushunkou attaches great importance to robust development of its leading agricultural companies. It believes that by forming a complete industrial chain from growing to processing and all the way to marketing, it can increase the added value of the products and bring more benefits to the people.

At present, there are altogether 162 agricultural product processing enterprises in Lushunkou, including 102 fisheries. It has seven State-level leading enterprises and one provincial agricultural products processing zone. The enterprises have an annual processing ability of 256,000 tons and an output value of 2.05 billion yuan.

What's more, the notion of "agriculture+" is also practiced in Lushunkou. Agriculture+ goes beyond planting and processing, reaching into scientific research, tourism, and entertainment. 

To date, the region has established 20 agricultural science and technology parks, 150 agricultural communities with standard facilities, nine leisure agricultural parks, over 200 fruit and vegetable picking gardens, 100 agritainments, 26 new farms and 280 online agricultural shops.
