Wuhan Export Processing Zone was founded in 2000, as one of the first 15 trial zones for export processing approved by the State Council. It was the only export processing zone in Central China. Covering an area of 2.7 sq km, it was upgraded to a comprehensive bonded area in 2018.
The zone enjoys convenient transportation, as it is located along the "golden waterway" of the Yangtze River, and the zone is blessed with a dense network of highways and expressways. It also boasts pleasant living and working environment.
The zone is home to a great number of enterprises funded by domestic and foreign investors, with the Dongfeng-Citreon car project as the most prominent one. Its pillar industries include automobile and auto parts, food and beverage, machinery, electronics, information, medicines and biology.
