In December 2022, the national Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.8 percent year-on-year. Among them, the urban increased by 1.8 percent and the rural increased by 1.8 percent; food prices increased by 4.8 percent, while nonfood prices increased by 1.1 percent; consumer goods prices increased by 2.6 percent and service prices increased by 0.6 percent.

In December, the national consumer price were flat on a month-on-month basis. Among them, the urban was flat and the rural decreased by 0.2 percent; food prices increased by 0.5 percent, and non-food prices decreased by 0.2 percent; consumer goods prices decreased by 0.1 percent and service prices increased by 0.1 percent.

The national Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 2022 increased by 2.0 percent from the previous year.

I. Year-on-Year Changes of Prices of Different Categories

In December, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol increased by 3.7 percent year-on-year, affecting the CPI increased by about 1.05 percentage points. Among food category, the price of livestock meat increased by 11.6 percent, affecting the CPI increased by about 0.38 percentage point, of which the price of pork increased by 22.2 percent, affecting the CPI increased by about 0.31 percentage point; the price of fresh fruit increased by 11.0 percent, affecting the CPI increased by about 0.21 percentage point. Egg prices increased by 9.6 percent, affecting CPI increased by about 0.06 percentage point; the price of aquatic products increased by 3.4 percent, affecting the CPI increased by about 0.06 percentage point. Grain prices increased by 2.6 percent, affecting CPI increased by about 0.05 percentage point; fresh vegetable prices decreased by 8.0 percent, affecting the CPI decreased by about 0.18 percentage point.

The prices of the other seven major categories increased six and decreased one year-on-year. Among them, the prices of transportation, communication, other supplies and services, daily necessities and services increased by 2.8, 2.8 and 1.5 percent respectively, the prices of education, culture and entertainment, health care and clothing increased by 1.4, 0.6 and 0.5 percent respectively, and the prices of housing decreased by 0.2 percent.

II. Month-on-Month Changes of Prices of Different Categories

In December, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol increased by 0.4 percent month-on-month, affecting the CPI increased by about 0.10 percentage point. Among foodstuff, the price of fresh vegetable increased by 7.0 percent, affecting the CPI increased by about 0.14 percentage point; the price of fresh fruit increased by 4.7 percent, affecting the CPI increased by about 0.09 percentage point. The price of aquatic products increased by 0.4 percent, affecting the CPI increased by about 0.01 percentage point. the price of livestock meat decreased by 4.6 percent, affecting the CPI decreased by about 0.17 percentage point, of which the price of pork decreased by 8.7 percent, affecting the CPI decreased by about 0.16 percentage point; egg prices decreased by 2.1 percent, affecting the CPI decreased by about 0.02 percentage point.

The prices of the other seven major categories increased four, leveled one and decreased two month-on-month. Among them, the prices of other supplies and services, daily necessities and services increased by 0.4 and 0.3 percent respectively, the prices of clothing, education, culture and entertainment all increased by 0.1 percent; the prices of health care was flat; and the prices of transportation, communication and housing decreased by 1.4 and 0.1 percent respectively.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) is an index measuring changes over time in the price level of consumer goods and services purchased by residents, which comprehensively reflects the changes of price level.

CPI covers the prices of goods and services of 8 categories and 268 basic divisions which cover the living consumption of urban and rural residents, including food, tobacco and liquor; clothing; residence; household articles and services; transportation and communication; education, culture and recreation; health care; other articles and services.
