Jining University

Jining University is located in Qufu, the hometown of Confucius, a famous politician and thinker of the Western Zhou Dynasty (c.11th century-771 BC). Its history dates back to Jining Normal Specialized Postsecondary College, which was founded in 1951. In 2007, the college was upgraded by the Ministry of Education to a full-time ordinary university of undergraduate education and got its current name. In 2008, Qufu Normal School, which was built up in 1905, was merged with the university.

The university now covers a combined floor area of 525,600 square meters, with the total value of its teaching and scientific research devices reaching 128.12 million yuan ($18.57 million). The library has a collection of 1.8 million paper books, 1,216 Chinese and foreign periodicals, and more than 900,000 electronic books.

By December 2018, the university had 20 schools and departments, offering 48 majors for postgraduates and 23 for junior college students, covering law, economics, literature, history, pedagogy, science and engineering, management, and art.

The university has attached great importance to scientific research since its establishment. It has undertaken 30 national-level scientific research projects, 139 at ministerial and provincial levels, and 281 at city or department level since the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15). A total of more than 1,900 papers have been published, of which over 500 were included in the Science Citation Index (SCI) and the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). The amount of awards at or above city and department levels achieved by the university totals 181.

The university also lays emphasis on the cultivation of students' comprehensive abilities. It has established 62 clubs and carried out a variety of activities to promote all-round development of the students. During the 12th Five-Year Plan, students from the university won 34 national awards and ones at the provincial level in various competitions.

Strengthening international exchanges and cooperation is also a major task of the university. It has established inter-school cooperation relations with more than 30 renowned universities and colleges around the world, including the University of Missouri in the United States, Cardiff Metropolitan University in Britain, and Pyeongtaek University in South Korea.

The university started enrolling foreign students in 2013.
