Shandong University of Technology

Shandong University of Technology was jointly founded by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Shandong Provincial Government in 1956.

Covering a combined floor area of 1.05 million square meters, the university boasts good teaching facilities and environment. It has 298 multimedia network classrooms, a library with a collection of 3.27 million volumes, and a sports field with an area of 164,000 sq m.

By March 2019, the university had 26 schools and departments, with 70 majors for bachelor degrees, covering science and engineering, management, literature, law, art, history and pedagogy. It also has one postdoctoral research station for mechanical engineering, four doctoral degree programs for first-rank disciplines, 26 master's degree programs for first-rank disciplines, and four authorized master's degree specialties.

Automotive engineering, traffic transport, agricultural mechanization and its automation, electrical engineering and its automatization, and mechanism design, manufacturing and automatization are the five national-level characteristic specialties of the university.

The university has always attached great importance to cultivating students with innovative spirits, specialized knowledge, practical ability, and physical and mental health.

The total value of the university's teaching and research equipment is 520 million yuan ($75.4 million). The university has four national engineering practice education centers, one national and three provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, one State-level virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and 20 provincial-level key discipline experimental teaching centers.

Since the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10), the university has undertaken more than 1,900 projects at ministerial and provincial levels or above, including 500 at national level. It has won more than 200 awards for scientific research achievements at ministerial and provincial levels or above, such as second prize in the National Technology Invention Awards in 2006 and 2007, and second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015.

As well, students of the university have won more than 7,000 prizes at or above ministerial and provincial level since the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), of which over 2,300 were national or international prizes.

The university has been promoting its international communication and cooperation in recent years. It has established cooperative relationships with 89 universities and colleges and scientific research institutions in 25 countries around the world, including the United States, Britain, South Korea, Russia, Australia and New Zealand. In 2018, there were about 700 foreign students coming to study at the university.
