According to preliminary accounting, the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2016 was 74,412.7 billion yuan ($11.61 trillion), up by 6.7 percent over the previous year.

Of this total, the value-added of the primary industry was 6,367.1 billion yuan, up by 3.3 percent, that of the secondary industry was 29,623.6 billion yuan, up by 6.1 percent and that of the tertiary industry was 38,422.1 billion yuan, up by 7.8 percent. The value-added of the primary industry accounted for 8.6 percent of the GDP; that of the secondary industry accounted for 39.8 percent; and that of the tertiary industry has accounted for 51.6 percent, 1.4 percentage points higher than that in the previous year.

The per capita GDP in 2016 was 53,980 yuan, up by 6.1 percent compared with the previous year. The gross national income in 2016 was 74,235.2 billion yuan, up by 6.9 percent over the previous year.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) refers to the final value of products at market prices produced by all resident units of a country during a certain period of time. GDP is the core indicator of national accounts, and also an important indicator in the measurement of economic conditions and the level of development of a country.
