FAW-Volkswagen rolled out its 30 millionth vehicle – an Audi A5L sedan – on Thursday at the company's Changchun plant in Jilin province, becoming the first passenger-vehicle maker in China to surpass 30 million units in cumulative production and sales.

"FAW will deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Volkswagen Group and accelerate integrated R&D and ecosystem development spanning vehicles and core components," said Qiu Xiandong, chairman of the board of directors of China FAW Group.

He also said FAW aims to make FAW-Volkswagen a benchmark for high-quality development and opening-up in China's auto industry, contribute to China's drive to become an automotive powerhouse, and broaden economic and social progress.

Established in 1991, FAW-Volkswagen is a key platform for China FAW and Volkswagen Group to advance Sino-German cooperation in the auto industry.

The company currently operates three brands – Volkswagen, Audi and Jetta – offering both internal-combustion and new energy models.

Over the past 34 years, it has generated more than 5.5 trillion yuan ($775 billion) in revenue, paid over 730 billion yuan in tax, and employed more than 500,000 people across the supply chain.

Looking ahead, the Sino-German joint venture said it will pursue a dual-track strategy of electrification and intelligent technologies.

Over the next five years, it plans to introduce more than 30 new models, about 20 of which will be new energy vehicles.
