As the final solar term of autumn – Frost's Descent (shuang jiang, Chinese: 霜降) – arrives, the air grows crisp and the mountains glow with red and yellow colors.
This Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) jade censer lid, now housed in the Wuhan Museum in Hubei province, captures the fleeting beauty in stone.
Carved using the qiaose (clever use of colors) technique, it depicts playful deer wandering through forested hills – full of life and motion amid the stillness of the season. Follow them to capture the last breath of autumn!
