Record of the Flower Hermitage, running script calligraphy on silk damask by Qi Junzao, Qing Dynasty, from the collection of the Shanxi Museum [Photo/provided to chinaservicesinfo.com]

This is a calligraphy piece on silk damask, written in running script by Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) calligrapher Qi Junzao (1793-1866). The brushwork is rounded and full, expansive horizontally and vertically. The text mainly describes how the artist, while serving in the western capital, created a small garden on the east side of his office. He built a simple framework of wood and bamboo and planted climbing flowers and vines to cover it like a building, naming it the "Flower Hermitage". Collection: Shanxi Museum.
