This Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) ceramic brings to life a majestic qilin — a benevolent beast from Chinese legend endowed with exceptional virtues. Crouching on a hexagonal pedestal, this unicorn-like creature raises its head and turns it backward, with its mouth slightly open. It has fins on its back, and its entire body is covered in scales. Its tail is curled upwards and attached to its back. The peacock green and yellow glazes are characteristic of Fahua ware.
